Alright, alright, alright, summer footy fans! What a season of Monday 7v7 CoEd action down at McCarren Park! As the days grow long and the temperatures stay fierce, so too does the competition on the pitch, with twists and turns that would make a pretzel look straight.
Undoubtedly, the narrative of this season has been dominated by the relentless march of 2 Girls 1 Goal. This squad has been an absolute force, a juggernaut that seemed unstoppable. At 33 points, sitting pretty atop the table after an incredible run of eleven wins, they've set the pace all summer long. Their footy has been a masterclass in cohesion and clinical finishing. But hold the phone, folks! Just when everyone thought their 'perfect recipe' for victory was insurmountable, the recent match on August 25th served up a dish nobody expected!
Right behind them, proving they're not just friendly giants, but fierce competitors, are Capybaras FC. With 28 points, these guys have been playing some magnificent calcio, with only one loss and one draw marring an otherwise stellar record. They're consistently outplaying opponents, especially with their definitive 3-0 shutout of Daniel's Team on August 18th and a critical 1-0 edge over Rialto Grande United on August 25th. They aren't just 'hanging out' at the top, they're asserting their claim for the championship!
Now, let's talk about the seismic shocker that rattled the very foundations of the league on August 25th! Footjobs, with 23 points and a very respectable third place showing, delivered a 'job well done' performance beyond expectation by handing league leaders 2 Girls 1 Goal their FIRST DEFEAT of the season, a stunning 2-1 victory! If this isn't a statement, what is?! This team, fresh off a truly monstrous 7-0 victory against Soccer My Balls on August 18th (who unfortunately faced 'rough landings' in that match), is clearly peaking at the perfect time. The Rialto Grande United squad, currently fourth with 21 points, had moments of 'grande' ambition and some sparkling victories, but faced a couple of tough losses against the top two recently, showing their work is not yet done against the very best.
Daniel's Team, holding onto fifth with 19 points, has put together a solid campaign, but their recent chapters haven't all been stories of triumph, falling to Capybaras FC and 2 Girls 1 Goal in tough fixtures. Below them, Organ Donors FC (16 points) are showing some serious 'heart' this season, even though they've missed a few 'vital' points along the way, including a crucial tie to Forma Footy Factory on July 21st, who, by the way, are slowly but surely 'forming' into a more formidable side with their 3-0 win against Mongo Bongo FC on August 18th. TACOS (9 points) on the other hand, are sometimes full of flavor and sometimes they 'fold', but their recent 3-1 triumph over Farcelona shows they're not always going to 'taco-bout' a loss.
The remaining schedule is mouth-watering, with the final regular season match featuring Footjobs slugging it out against Capybaras FC on August 27th. Can Footjobs maintain their electrifying momentum against another top-tier squad? Or will the Capybaras FC send them back into their cage? With Creative Flow FC (7 points) still searching for their consistent 'artistry' throughout the season and Mongo Bongo FC (6 points) sometimes 'bongo-ing' to their own beat and other times off-rhythm, the battle for playoff positioning below the top contenders remains an absolute scramble. Get ready for some thrilling fĂştbol, the drama is far from over!
